- After the recent market hearsays that China Unicom sent out an urgent notice demanding its provincial subsidiaries - including Beijing Unicom and Shanghai Unicom - to expand Wi-Fi (Wireless-Fidelity) coverage, China Unicom said that iPhones delivered before year-end 2009 will still not include the Wi-Fi function, the Sina Tech News reported on September 30. Meanwhile, China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) revealed that Apple and Intel have been in talks with China's government regarding opening up Wi-Fi access, the Sohu IT News reported on September 30

- China Mobile has begun selling a TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) Smartphone, known as Ophone - which runs on OMS (Open Mobile System) platform developed by China Mobile based on Google's Android OS - in its Shanghai business halls, the Sina Tech News reported on September 28. This Smartphone manufactured by Dopod, codenamed A6188 will be promoted between September 29, 2009 and October 28, 2009. During the promotion period, users who purchase Ophones will receive a subsidy worth 1,800 RMB (US$264.7; US$1 = 6.8 RMB) from China Mobile, including a 1,500 RMB (US$220.6) mobile fee subsidy and 300 RMB (US$44.1) data service subsidy. Furthermore, users are needless to pay a minimum monthly subscription fee. Mobile fee subsidies will be given back to users 100 RMB (US$14.7) per month for 15 months, according to the same source.

- Chinese Datang Telecom announced on September 30 that the company has signed an agreement with Chinese TD-SCDMA equipment solutions provider Leadcore through its subsidiary UniScope Technologies, the chinabyte.com reported on September 30. Under the agreement, Datang will pay licensing fees five million RMB (US$735.3) to the latter for TD-SCDMA-related solutions, including TD-SCDMA terminals A2000+ TV/A2000+ HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access). Leadcore is a joint venture established in March 2008 between Datang Microelectronics and Shanghai Datang Mobile Communications, a spin-off from Dtang Mobile. To date, Lenovo, HP, Acer have adopted chip solutions manufactured by Leadcore.
